Application Requirements

The International Committee at Providence College reviews applications for all non-U.S. citizens, as well as any dual and U.S. citizens attending high school outside of the United States. In order to be considered for admission to Providence College, you must submit the following:
  • The Common Application Students can apply to Providence College using the Common Application. Components of the application include:
    • School Report and school transcript(s)/Leaving Certificates/Predicted scores: We hope to gain an understanding of your secondary level academic preparation from materials that will differ based upon your school curriculum and country. Transcripts not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
    • Recommendations: We require one from your college advisor/administrator. Additional recommendations may be submitted if you feel they can add relevant, insightful information about you, but are not required.
    • Application Essay: With the Common Application, you have several broad choices for the required essay. Use this piece of writing to not only illustrate your writing skills, but also to share something personal about yourself with the admission committee. With the essay we are trying to evaluate your communication skills as much as trying to get a glimpse of your personality.
    • Standardized Test Scores: Submission of standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) is optional for all students applying for admission. Our review for admission emphasizes the work that each student has completed throughout their schooling. It should be noted, however, that SAT or ACT scores may help to provide a greater understanding of your academic profile. We do not use SAT Subject Tests in our admission review and disregard any scores submitted from those exams. Additional details about the policy can be found on the Standardized Testing section of our website.
    • Academic and Disciplinary Standing: Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at their current institution. Providence College reserves the right to withdraw an offer of admission if we learn of behavior that brings into question an admitted student’s honesty, maturity, or good moral character, or that would otherwise have caused us to not have extended an offer of admission.
  • Proof of English Proficiency English is the primary language of instruction at Providence College. You must be able to understand English and express yourself clearly in speech and writing. Students whose native language is not English must submit their scores for Providence College’s preferred English proficiency tests, either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Test System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test (DET). Please ensure that all scores are sent to “Providence College Undergraduate Admissions” as sending them to PC in general may delay their processing by our office. Students should be at about the C1 CERF level of proficiency. Having the minimum score does not guarantee admittance.

Minimum scores for consideration:

TOEFL – 577 (pBT) or 90 (iBT- with a minimum of 22 on each section) IELTS – 7.0 (Academic test) Duolingo – 120

Students who have studied entirely in English throughout secondary school may qualify to receive a waiver for the English proficiency requirement, although we still highly recommend that you submit a TOEFL, IELTS or DET score as such submission will enhance your application. All requests can be made by contacting the Office of Admission. Requests should provide evidence as to why the English proficiency requirement should be waived and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Proper Financial Documentation (non-U.S. citizens only)

For all international students applying for admission:

Current Bank Statements Bank Statements should be submitted (with a date of no more than three months prior to submission).

International Student Certification of Finances The purpose of this form is to allow you to demonstrate the amount you are able to contribute to your educational, personal, and travel expenses.

International students applying for need-based financial aid must also submit:

CSS Profile Students requesting need-based financial assistance are required to submit the CSS Profile and the International Student Certification of Finances at the time they apply for admission. Providence College does not accept the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA). The CSS Profile should only be submitted if you are applying for need-based financial aid. Providence College is able to offer a limited amount of need-based assistance to international students, but we are unable to guarantee meeting each student’s full need. Please read more about our financial assistance policies for a greater understanding.

Notes on submitting your application:

  • Always use your full legal name in all your documents and tests. This will prevent future problems, especially at the time of issuing visas.
  • Provide a copy of your passport photo/biographical page, if possible.
  • If you use a post office address for your mail, we ask, if possible, that you provide your home address as well. We may need to use FedEx or UPS to mail items directly to your home.
  • Since we are dealing with international mail systems, it is wise that you make and save photocopies of all your documents in case the first set is lost in the mail.
  • It is acceptable to scan and e-mail all forms. We will, however, only accept certain forms from your college counselor. This includes letters of recommendations, test scores, and official high school transcripts.
