Costs and Financial Aid for International Students
Costs and Financial Aid for International Students
For a detailed breakdown of the cost of attendance, please see our Tuition & Fees.
Need-Aware Admission Process
International students are considered for admission based upon a review of the academic qualifications, financial need, and availability of student aid resources.
While Providence College provides a significant amount of financial assistance for its international students, that support is capped at the cost of tuition. To be admissible, students must demonstrate the ability to cover at least housing and food (approximately $22,000 USD) but the most competitive candidates demonstrate the ability to cover approximately half of the total cost of attendance (approximately $40,000 USD). Though some external sources may indicate greater support for international applicants, the average amount of support reported per student is often exaggerated because of international student-athletes on a full athletic scholarship.
Merit-based Scholarships
All applicants (domestic and international) are automatically considered for Providence College’s academic scholarships. The Committee on Scholarships determines awards based on the application for admission, and these scholarships are given to students who display outstanding academic credentials. For more information, including the different levels of scholarship, view our Merit Scholarships page. Please note that no merit scholarship covers the full cost of attendance, and that even if combined with a need-based award, funding will not exceed the cost of tuition.
Need-based Financial Assistance
Providence College is able to provide a limited amount of need-based aid to international students (non-US citizens). Need-based awards are intended to supplement the amount that a student is able to pay in order to reach the full cost of attendance. Our need-based awards can cover up to the cost of full tuition, though these cases are extremely rare and it’s more likely they could cover up to half the cost of attendance. Other expenses, including housing, food, travel, books, and other costs and fees, are the responsibility of the student.
It is important to be honest when reporting the amount of money you and your family can contribute to your education. Providence College is unable to increase financial assistance awards once they are allocated and students are level-funded for all four years.
Financial Aid Forms
Please note that there are two different financial forms that are required depending upon whether or not you are seeking need-based financial aid.
Students seeking consideration for need-based financial assistance are required to submit at the time of application:
- CSS Profile – Students requesting need-based financial assistance are required to submit the CSS Profile and the International Student Certification of Finances at the time they apply for admission. Please note that Providence College does not accept alternate applications for financial aid including, the International Students Applying for Financial Aid (ISAFA) form. Additionally, we do not offer fee waivers for the CSS Profile.
- Current bank statements (dated within three months of submission)
Students not seeking need-based financial assistance are required to submit at the time of application:
- International Student Certification of Finances
- Current bank statements (dated within three months of submission)
Both forms can be filled out and e-mailed to international@providence.edu at the time of application. Please be aware that we may ask for further financial documentation per U.S. government regulations at a later date should you be admitted and choose to enroll.
International students seeking additional financial assistance are also encouraged to contact local or international agencies in their home country.
